PACE Hosts 4th Annual NYC Citywide Schools Forum –

“The Parent’s Perspective on Citywide G&T Education”

New York, NY, April 2, 2015 – PACE (the Parents’ Alliance for Citywide Education) will hold its 4th Annual Spring Parents’ Forum “The Parents’ Perspective on Citywide G&T Education” providing information about New York City’s Citywide Gifted & Talented (G&T) K-8 schools. The event will take place on Monday, April 20, from 7 to 8:30 pm, at Washington Irving High School in Manhattan.

Robin Aronow, Ph.D, an independent consultant and founder of School Search NYC, will moderate the event. Admission is free and open to the public.

Parent representatives from each of the Citywide G&T schools will be present at the forum. Current parents of Citywide G&T elementary students will share the unique aspects and challenges of their schools in the format of a panel discussion followed by a question and answer session.

This event is created solely by parents of children at Citywide G&T schools. It is not officially sponsored by any of the Citywide schools nor by the Department of Education.

PACE is an organization founded by parent volunteers who represent each of New York City’s Citywide G&T schools and programs: The Anderson School on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, Brooklyn School of Inquiry, NEST+m on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, STEM Academy at PS 85Q (grades 2-5 in 2015/16) and The 30th Avenue School (Q300) (grades K-2, 6 & 7 in 2015/16) in Queens, & TAG Young Scholars in East Harlem, Manhattan.

PACE seeks to advance Citywide G&T education through advocacy, outreach, and coalition building. PACE’s activities include:

  • Monitoring relevant education policy and issues,
  • Educating elected officials and other community leaders about Citywide gifted and talented programs,
  • Advocating for existing and new Citywide G & T schools and programs. Citywide schools are G & T schools which accept applicants from any of NYC’s five boroughs based on results of Department of Education Gifted and Talented testing.
